Chpater 3 From Topics to guestions:
Find an interest in a borad subject area.
If you are free to explore any topic within reason, we can offer only a cliche: start with what interests you most deeply. Nothing will contribute to the quality of your wotk more than your sense of its worth and your commitment to it. Start by listing four or five areas that you would like to learn more about, then pick one with the best potential for yielding a topic that is specific and that might lead to good sources od data.
Narrow the interest to a plausible topic.
A topic is probably too broad if you can state it in fewer than four or five words.
Question that topics from several points of view.
Define a rationale for your project.
Chpater 6 Using Sources:
Here are the frist two principles for using sources: One good source is worth more than a score of mediocre ones, and one accurate summary of a good source is sometimes worth more than the source itself.
You can easily lose what you gain by careful reading if your notes do not reflect the quality of your thinking.
